Source quality up to 1080p60 · MP4 output · VODs, clips & live recordings

A Twitch clip is a short, shareable moment cut from a stream. vodfetch is a free Twitch clip downloader that saves those clips as MP4 files in their original quality (up to 1080p60) — perfect for re-watching, editing, or reposting to TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Reels. It also downloads full VODs and live streams, all with no watermark and no account. It also works as a simple Twitch clip search and manager: type a channel name instead of a link and vodfetch lists that channel's most-viewed clips right in the tool, each with a one-click download.

Why a clip downloads differently from a VOD

A clip is a separate, already-transcoded file that Twitch stores independently of the broadcast it was cut from. That is why a clip outlives its source: Twitch deletes past broadcasts after 7 days (14 for Affiliates, 60 for Partners and for Prime or Turbo channels), while a clip stays up until someone deletes it. What a clip cannot do is exceed the stream it came from — its resolution and frame rate were fixed at the moment of capture, and nothing added later can put detail back.

When you paste a clip link, vodfetch asks Twitch for that clip's own stored quality list and builds the dropdown from it, labelling each entry with the resolution and frame rate Twitch reports — 1080p60, 720p30, and so on. The top entry is starred as the source quality. Nothing is upscaled, so a clip cut from a 720p stream will not show a 1080p option, and unlike a VOD or a live stream a clip has no audio-only entry in the list.

The download is a fetch of one finished file rather than an assembly job. A VOD or a live recording arrives as a long list of .ts segments, which vodfetch pulls six at a time and — for MP4 output — pushes through a transmuxer running inside your browser. A clip is already a finished MP4 on Twitch's CDN, so vodfetch relays those bytes and writes them to disk unchanged. Two consequences follow: a clip always saves as .mp4, even if the transmuxer never loads, so the MP4/TS switch under Options applies only to segment-based downloads; and with no segments to count there is no percentage bar, so the log goes from "Downloading clip…" straight to the finished filename.

The channel-name search has one quirk worth knowing: typing a name first tries that channel's live stream, and only when that fails does vodfetch fall back to browsing the channel. You then get its 24 most recent past broadcasts, with a button to load older ones, and its 12 most-viewed clips, with period buttons for today, this week, this month and all time. Clicking a card fills the input and analyses it. While a channel is actually streaming, paste the clip URL directly instead.

Accepted inputclips.twitch.tv/<slug>, twitch.tv/<channel>/clip/<slug> (or /clips/), or a bare slug of six or more characters containing a hyphen
Output filealways .mp4, written unchanged — no segment stitching, no re-encode, no transmuxer involved
Quality optionsbuilt from the clip's own stored list (e.g. 1080p60, 720p30), source starred first; never upscaled, and no audio-only entry
Saved filenameBroadcaster_2026-05-02_Clip title_1080p60.mp4 — editable in the filename field under Options
VOD-only featurestrim range, chat export and the chapter list stay hidden for a clip
Channel clip search12 most-viewed clips per period: today / this week / this month / all time
Retentionclips stay until deleted; past broadcasts expire after 7, 14 or 60 days

Twitch Clips vs Highlights vs VODs: What's the Difference?

Twitch stores four kinds of video and they behave nothing alike. A past broadcast deletes itself on a clock. A Highlight does not, but since 19 April 2025 it competes for a 100-hour budget. A Clip is the only user-created type with neither. Here is the full comparison, and what to do with each.

Why use — and share — vodfetch? 👋

Real talk: vodfetch is built by one person — a dad of two with a wife, a day job, and a slightly broken sense of free time — trying to make a little extra on the side. No investors, no growth team, no dark patterns. Just me and a lot of coffee.

So here's the honest deal: the tool is free and always will be. A couple of small, non-annoying ads keep the lights on — that's it. No spam, no pop-ups, no fake 'Download' buttons, no account, no watermark. And it's all open-source, so you can check I'm not up to anything shady.

A tiny ask, and a big thank-you ❤️

If vodfetch saved a clip before it vanished, the kindest thing you can do costs nothing: send it to one friend who streams, drop a star on GitHub, or paste the link in your Discord. That word-of-mouth is honestly the whole marketing budget. Thank you — really.
